Meet The Locals
Meet The Locals Vol.8
Growing Connections in the Setouchi, from a Small Hub.
Natsuki Matsuo Community Managaer Kotori Kotohira
Natsuki Matsuo is originally from Saitama Prefecture.
Her journey began when she was captivated by the scenery of Naoshima and Teshima during the Setouchi Triennale while she was a university student.
As she studied tourism and ecotourism, her interest in "living in regional areas" deepened, and after graduation, she followed personal connections and moved to Okayama.
Through working in guesthouses and agriculture, her desire to one day live in the Setouchi region grew stronger.
Why Kagawa?
Kagawa offers just the right balance between urban convenience and rural calm.
It's compact and easy to live in, and wherever you go, the sea is close by.
That sense of distance really suits me.
The Warmth of People in Kotohira
When I first came to Kotohira, the first thing I noticed was how kind people were.
Although it's a historic town, everyone is friendly and supportive of those trying new things.
I think that openness is one of Kotohira's greatest charms.
Working at Kotori
She currently works as the community manager at Kotori Coworking & Hostel Kotohira,
handling guest services, planning and running events, and even developing tour programs.
At times, she also works at Kotori Takamatsu (Kawaramachi), a sister location.
Kotori is not only a place where guests from Japan and abroad gather, but also a hub for local community interaction.
Travelers and locals, people who work here and people who live here — because so many different people come and go, new information and ideas emerge every day.
Sometimes, new projects are born naturally from those encounters.
Hopes for the Future
I see Kotori as the gateway to Kotohira.
From here, I hope both locals and travelers will take their first step toward new experiences.
Future Challenges
An outdoor enthusiast who loves hiking, Ms. Matsuo says:
"In the future, I'd love to try planning outdoor tours where people can truly feel nature. Kotohira has mountains, and if you go a little further, you reach the Setouchi Sea. I want to share journeys where nature feels close at hand, starting from here."
Summary
Kotori, where travelers and locals alike can drop by freely, is truly a hub of encounters.
Ms. Matsuo's gentle smile and warm gaze make this place even more welcoming.
When you visit Kotohira, start by taking a break at Kotori.
The encounters that begin here may enrich your journey just a little more.
